Informal Science
Informal educators are invited to attend the third annual conference of the Northeast
Informal Science Education Network (NISEN). Building
Bridges 1999, co-sponsored by the Regional Alliance
and MITS (Museum Institute for Teaching Science), will take place at the College of
the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, on September 13 and 14, 1999.
The conference will offer several six-hour content workshops, complemented by
collaborative project sessions. Some projects
will address local and regional needs, others may serve shared needs of conference
participants. A group of educators from the same area might decide to produce a brochure
that highlights each of their organizations' educational programs that relate to a given
theme. Such a brochure would enable area schools to be more purposeful in their use of
informal science resources. Other groups might work on their own grant proposals with
the guidance of a grant-writing consultant.
Workshop topics include:
The Building Bridges 1999 program will also include features that were successful
at past conferences, such as a job-posting board, numerous opportunities for
networking, and space for sharing materials.
