Regional Networks

Equity

The fourth in a series of data strategies institutes is scheduled for May 24-25, 1999. Co-sponsored by the Alliance Equity Network and the Comprehensive Center at EDC, this conference will bring together groups of school or district teams from each of the six New England states to learn more about understanding and using data to support student achievement and instructional improvement. Teams will participate in concurrent sessions on key issues; network with other teams from their state and region; and work on their own plans for improvement. For conference information, contact Mark Kaufman at TERC; mark_kaufman@terc.edu.

Informal Science

Plans are underway for the third annual conference of the Northeast Informal Science Education Network (NISEN). On September 13 and 14, 1999, educators from museums, nature centers, and other informal science sites in the region will gather to discuss

critical issues in informal science education and identify ways to collaborate. The success of last year’s NISEN conference, "Building Bridges: Informal Science Supporting Educational Reform," has lead to outreach efforts such as the recent museum educators open house at Laughing Brook Education Center & Wildlife Sanctuary in Hampden, Massachusetts. The open house was the first in a series of regional activities supported by the network. For more information about the conference and NISEN, contact Molly Singsen at TERC; molly_singsen@terc.edu.
