The Alliance Welcomes New Schools

T he Alliance Schools Network has nearly doubled its size, adding thirty-four schools from the region's states and islands. This diverse group of elementary, middle, and secondary schools is committed to improving the teaching and learning of math and science. With reform leaders in the region, the schools are examining their curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. By coordinating their reform efforts, they seek to achieve measurable results and sustainable improvements.

The Alliance began its recruitment efforts in December 1997. Schools were nominated by state reform leaders, alliance staff, and existing Alliance Schools. Brochures inviting school nominations were also disseminated to educators throughout the region.

Each nominated school submitted a letter of interest describing their current reform efforts, school demographics, leadership structure, and collaborations with other organizations. In an effort to create a diverse group, comprising varied demographics, geography, grade levels, and experience with education reform, the following thirty-four schools were selected.
