CERTL
The Center of Excellence for Research, Teaching and Learning (CERTL) fosters attainment of goals to increase the number of students who successfully participate, progress and achieve in K-12 science and mathematics. The CERTL Professional Development Network was established in order to provide school districts around the country with the opportunity to access quality professional development on a regular basis and at an affordable price. The providers comprising the network are well respected within the education community and the offerings of the network have been designed to produce measurable impact on administrators, students and teachers.
The Network is comprised of a central location, CERTL at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and centers at TERC in Cambridge, MA and the Northwest Regional Education Lab in Portland, OR.

Leadership for Mathematics Improvement
Leadership for Mathematics Improvement (LMI) helps schools and districts plan, implement and monitor a comprehensive mathematics improvement process. LMI provides customized support for developing a mathematics leadership team; examining the research and best practices in mathematics curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development; creating a vision and shared beliefs about mathematics teaching and learning; and building the district's capacity to sustain a curriculum improvement effort.

Science-athon
The Science-athon is a CEP-sponsored initiative that was introduced in 1999. It has achieved a national presence in
the online science community, reinforcing TERC’s reputation for technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
The Science-athon was profiled in the December 2000 Collaborative Projects Newsletter and featured in the
Collaborative Projects section of the Education World site. It is featured as an Exemplary Project on West-Eds
Techscape Invention Center (http://www.techscape.org/).
The Online Science-athon offers elementary and middle-grade students opportunities to discover the science in
their daily lives. Each event challenges students to investigate their world in ways that are engaging
and fun, easy for teachers to incorporate into their teaching, and instructive. Yet, common to all of
the events is that they are delivered from the Science-athon website, result in class data that is
submitted to a central database, and include the exploration of questions using displays of student-generated data.
Science-athon events include:

Using Data Online Course
In response to the tremendous need for the Using Data/Getting Results workshops, this winter TERC will be launching a Using Data/Getting Results workshop series online.
The intent of the program, organized into three modules, is to develop Using Data Facilitators at the district and school level.
During the online course participants will learn:
- A process and framework for having deep and meaningful dialogues about student achievement data.
- Data literacy skills for engaging with others in data collection and analysis,
- A structure and tools to support school and district improvement planning (including building the foundation for the Using Data, identifying student learning problems, conducting causal analysis, generating of strategies and solutions and building an implementation and monitoring plan).
